The Villages
Go for 1–2 nights only if you have a resident host, a rental with a Guest ID card, or a booked event; otherwise skip — it is a retirement community, not a resort town.
The Villages is a purpose-built retirement community of about 157,000 people spread across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties, not a normal tourist city. Its three town squares have free live music and dancing nightly from 5pm to 9pm and are open to anyone; almost everything else — pools, recreation centres, most golf — needs a resident or Guest ID card. Come with a host or a rental that includes a card, or come for a specific event, and one or two nights is enough. Without a card, you are limited to the squares, restaurants, shops and paid golf.

Get around
You need a car or a golf cart. The Villages is built around golf carts: tens of thousands share residential roads, with multi-modal paths and tunnels where boulevards exceed 25 mph. All roads are public; visitors press the red button at traffic gates. Roundabouts control the boulevards. The free Villages App gives car and cart routing.
