Practical tips
Sulphur baths: the private rooms are the romantic option, but they are also the ones that sell out. Book for an evening slot rather than turning up, and take your own towel if you want to avoid a rental fee. The water is hot and strongly sulphur-scented; jewellery can tarnish, so leave it at the hotel.
Dress and behaviour: Georgia is socially conservative in churches and some family restaurants. Carry a scarf and cover shoulders and knees at Svetitskhoveli, Jvari and any working church. Public affection is fine in bars and parks, less so inside religious sites.
