These are the stops that give a first-timer the shape of the city in two or three days. Most sit within a 20-minute walk of each other, so you can do them on foot and use the metro only for Fabrika and the station.
Book the sulphur baths ahead if you want a private room; the public bathhouse is walk-in and cheaper. Narikala is free and open all day, and the cable car up from Rike Park saves the climb. The Georgian National Museum is the one indoor stop worth planning around, and it is the best wet-weather fallback.

The city runs along the Mtkvari river, with the Old Town and Abanotubani on the south bank and Rustaveli Avenue climbing north-west. Narikala sits above the Old Town; the cable car starts at Rike Park on the river. Fabrika is east of the centre in Marjanishvili, one metro stop from Rustaveli.

Practical tips
Money: the lari is the only currency you need. Cards work in hotels, restaurants and most bars, but carry small notes for markets, marshrutka vans and the public bathhouse. ATMs are everywhere in the centre; decline the ATM's own conversion and let your bank do it.
Getting around: the metro is fast and cheap, and one card covers buses too. Taxis are metered in theory but often quoted; agree the price before you get in, or use a ride app. The airport bus is the cheapest way in, and a taxi should cost a fixed, modest fare to the centre.
Etiquette: Georgia is a wine-and-toast culture, and a supra can run long. If you are offered a toast, you do not have to drink, but joining in is the point. In churches, cover up and keep voices down; services welcome quiet visitors. Tap water in Tbilisi is generally treated and most locals drink it, but bottled or filtered is the safe default if your stomach is new to the region.

When to go
May, June, September and October are the sweet spot: mild days, dry streets and long evenings on the terraces. July and August push past 30 °C in the city, which is the time to head for Kazbegi or the Black Sea coast instead. December to February is cold and grey, with snow in the mountains and short daylight.
Spring and autumn also line up with the wine harvest in Kakheti, which is the easiest day trip from the capital. If you are here for a first trip, three or four nights in Tbilisi plus one mountain or wine day covers the essentials without rushing.
