Train: the default for one person

The T8 line stops at the international terminal (T1) and the domestic terminals (T2 and T3), then runs to Central, Town Hall, Wynyard and Circular Quay. Trains are frequent through the day and the trip is quick enough that traffic never matters.

Fares at the airport stations include an access fee on top of the normal Opal fare, which is why the train costs more here than an equivalent city trip. Tap on and off with an Opal card, a contactless bank card or your phone. If you are staying near Central or Town Hall, the train is usually the fastest door-to-door option.

Landing in the morning peak, the train beats any road option into the city. Landing after midnight, taxis and rideshare are simpler with bags; trains thin out overnight.

If your hotel is in Surry Hills, Darling Harbour or near Central, the train plus a short walk or one bus is usually enough. If it is in Manly or Bondi, plan the ferry or bus leg as well, and check the last service times.
