Svealand is middle Sweden: Stockholm and its archipelago in the east, university plains around Uppsala and Västerås, forest and lake country in Dalarna and Värmland, and a small mountain edge in the far northwest. Almost everything a first-time visitor wants sits within 1–2 hours of Stockholm by train, so the practical move is one base plus day-trips rather than a hotel-hopping loop. Dalarna and Värmland reward a separate 2-night stay by car or train; the northwest mountains are a third trip.
