Sungai Pinang

Go for a half-day or full-day trip from Padang or Bukittinggi if you want a quiet fishing village, jungle trekking, and snorkeling without crowds. Not worth a dedicated overnight.

Sungai Pinang is a small fishing village on West Sumatra's Indian Ocean coast, 45 km south of Padang. It offers white sandy beaches, jungle trekking (gibbons, macaques, birds, possibly Sumatran tiger), and snorkeling around five small islands including Marak Island with a gibbon rehabilitation project. Most visitors come as a day trip from Padang or Bukittinggi.
