The Southern Highlands is a broad highland belt across Tanzania's south-central interior: the Ruaha park gate, the Isimila Stone Age site, tea estates around Mufindi and Tukuyu, and a cool plateau climate at 1,500–2,000 m. Ruaha itself sits lower and hotter, at 700–1,000 m. It is not a first-trip add-on — the northern circuit plus Zanzibar already fills two weeks. Come here if you want a second trip, low vehicle traffic in the park, and lower park fees than the north.
