Souris is a small harbour town of about 1,200 people at the eastern tip of Prince Edward Island, founded by Acadian fishers in 1727. It matters for one reason: the CTMA ferry to the Îles-de-la-Madeleine leaves from here. The town itself is a quiet half-day of old buildings, a lighthouse and a beach, best used as a night before or after the crossing.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
The town is small enough to walk. Everything else on the island needs a car: there is no local bus, and T3 Transit runs only a few weekday trips between Charlottetown and the Souris ferry terminal.

Watch out
Safety
- The CTMA ferry is not daily in every season: 3–11 crossings a week depending on the month, so check the sailing date before you book a bed.
- Arrive at the ferry terminal at least one hour before departure.
- Most restaurants and shops close early outside Jul–Aug.
- Distances on PEI are short on the map but slow on secondary roads; add time for tractors and cyclists.
