Singapore in March: what to expect

March is the tail of the northeast monsoon: hot, humid and drier than the year-end months. Expect roughly 25–33 °C (77–91 °F) around the clock, with the highest readings in the early afternoon and little relief after dark. February is the driest month of the year; March is close behind it, so you get more usable daylight than in November, December or January.

Rain still arrives, but usually as a short, heavy burst rather than a grey day. Showers can land in the afternoon, and the northeast monsoon can push a wet spell through in the first half of the month. Treat any outdoor plan as a morning plan and keep an indoor backup within a few MRT stops.

UV is the bigger daily issue. The sun is close to overhead, so a 20-minute walk at noon feels much longer than it looks. Haze, which affects Singapore in some years from August to October, is not a March concern.

March is a medium month on both counts. The Chinese New Year rush has passed, the June school holidays are months away, and there is no F1 race or year-end light season to lift bay-area hotel rates. Flights and rooms are easier to find than in February, October or December, and hawker food costs the same all year.

The two things that can tighten supply are the Hari Raya Puasa holiday around 10 March 2027 and Good Friday on 26 March 2027. Both create long weekends: Causeway queues to Johor Bahru stretch, Batam and Bintan ferries fill, and Singaporeans book short stays at home. If your dates touch either, book transport early.

Ramadan bazaars in Geylang Serai and Kampong Glam run through the weeks before Hari Raya Puasa, which makes evenings in those districts busier and more interesting than usual. Some Malay-Muslim stalls close on the holiday itself.

The month's calendar is shaped by two holidays. Hari Raya Puasa, which marks the end of Ramadan, falls around 10 March 2027 — the exact date depends on the moon sighting, so confirm it before you plan around it. The run-up is the interesting part: Geylang Serai and Kampong Glam host Ramadan bazaars with food stalls and evening crowds, and the lights stay up through the holiday.

Good Friday on 26 March 2027 is a public holiday and a long weekend for Singaporeans, which means heavier traffic at the two land and sea crossings and fuller hotels on Sentosa. Elsewhere in the month, the regular programme continues: museum exhibitions, Esplanade free performances and the nightly Supertree light shows at Gardens by the Bay.

Check current listings for anything date-specific. Event dates move, and a March trip that misses a bazaar still has plenty to fill the evenings.

Use the dry mornings for anything outdoors. The Southern Ridges and MacRitchie Reservoir walks are at their best before 10am, when the heat is manageable and the tree cover still holds some cool air. Sentosa beaches and the southern islands work well on a clear morning; the sea is warm and the northeast-monsoon chop has eased by March.

Keep the middle of the day indoors: the National Gallery, the museums at Bras Basah, the malls on Orchard Road and the hawker centres. Kampong Glam and Little India are worth an evening rather than a noon visit, and both are livelier in March because of the Ramadan bazaars.

For a first trip, base yourself near an MRT line and treat the island as one compact city rather than a set of separate stops. Three to four nights covers the headline sights without rushing.

Pack for heat and short, heavy rain. Light, quick-drying clothing beats cotton that stays damp; a compact umbrella or a light rain shell covers the afternoon burst without weighing you down. Comfortable sandals or breathable trainers are fine for a city where most walking happens between air-conditioned stops.

Bring high-factor sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and a light layer for air conditioning, which runs cold in malls, museums and the MRT. If your dates touch Hari Raya Puasa or Good Friday, add nothing special — just book transport ahead.

February is the driest month of the year, but Chinese New Year (6–7 Feb 2027) closes some hawker stalls for a few days and fills flights — go for the weather, book early for the crowds. April shifts into the inter-monsoon pattern: hotter, with afternoon thunderstorms and clear mornings, at similar medium crowds and prices.

January is wetter, with northeast-monsoon rainy spells early in the month, and May is the hottest stretch with Vesak and Hari Raya Haji holidays. If you are flexible, March and April are the sweet spot between the year-end rains and the mid-year heat.
