Seychelles is a small, spread-out country: three main islands, one main road on each, and no metro or rail. Your phone does three jobs — finding the road, messaging the people who drive you, and booking the boat between islands. Everything else is optional.
Google Maps is the default for driving on Mahé and Praslin and for the cycle paths and lanes on La Digue. Coverage of the main roads is good, but side tracks to beaches and guesthouses can be missing or misplaced. Download the offline map for each island before you fly, and treat the last 200 m of any rural route as approximate.
WhatsApp is how guesthouses, taxi drivers and small tour operators arrange pickups. Save the numbers you are given at check-in. A local SIM from Airtel or Cable & Wireless, sold at the airport and in Victoria, gives you data for this; an eSIM bought before departure works too. Wi-Fi is standard in hotels and slower in small guesthouses, so do not rely on it for booking a ferry at short notice.
For inter-island travel, use the ferry operator's own booking site rather than a third-party reseller. Crossings between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue sell out in peak season, and the operator's site shows the current timetable and any weather cancellations. Keep the booking confirmation offline on your phone.
