Best places to visit in Seychelles: top cities, regions and sights

Seychelles is small but not walkable between islands: you move by ferry or short flight, and ferries run in daylight only. That makes trip length the main decision. The table below matches the parent guide's routes to the places most travellers actually want to see.

Mahé is the entry island and the only place with a real town. Victoria is one of the world's smallest capitals: the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, the clock tower, the botanical garden with its tortoises and the Natural History Museum fit into a morning. Saturday morning is the best market slot.

The rest of Mahé is coast and mountain. Beau Vallon, on the north-west coast, is the main beach village and the easiest base for swimming, with the widest choice of places to eat. Morne Seychellois National Park covers the interior; hike early, because afternoons are hot and humid. Base on Mahé for 2–3 nights at the start or end of a trip.

Praslin is the second-largest island and the one most first-timers remember. Vallée de Mai, a palm forest and UNESCO site, is the headline sight; Anse Lazio, on the north-west coast, is the beach most people come for. Grand Anse is the main village and the ferry landing, so it is the practical base if you are moving on.

Allow 3–4 nights. That is enough for Vallée de Mai, Anse Lazio and a day trip to Curieuse, the small island off Praslin known for its giant tortoises. Praslin is also the launch point for La Digue, a short ferry hop away.

La Digue is the smallest of the three main islands and the one where you do not need a car: bikes are the normal way to get around, and the island is flat enough to ride between beaches. Anse Source d'Argent, with its granite boulders, is the best-known beach in the country. La Passe is the ferry jetty village, where most guesthouses and bike rentals sit.

Two to three nights suits most travellers. Fewer than that and you spend more time on ferries than on the island.

Two places work well without a night's stay. Curieuse, off Praslin, is a day trip for giant tortoises and walking. Sainte Anne Marine Park, reached by boat from Victoria, is the easy snorkelling option from Mahé.

If you have two weeks, add a coral island: Bird or Denis Island, both reached by a short flight from Mahé, with lodges that usually include the flight in the rate. Silhouette, a rainforest island with a single resort, suits 2–3 nights and a slower pace. These are add-ons, not first-trip essentials.

Match beaches to the wind season rather than chasing a single "best" beach: the calm side changes through the year, so ask locally on arrival. April–May and October–November are the most comfortable months overall.

Ferries between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue run in daytime only, so plan island changes for the morning and keep the last night on Mahé before flying home.
