Get around
The MTS Trolley (Blue, Green, Orange lines) and buses cover Downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley and the border at San Ysidro; a day pass is the easy buy. The Coaster commuter train runs up the coast to Carlsbad and Oceanside. Many beach and La Jolla trips are quicker by car or rideshare, and parking near the coast is tight in summer.

- Do not swim or wade at the Children's Pool in La Jolla: it is a seal colony and the water is not safe.
- Border waits at San Ysidro can run to hours on foot and by car: check live wait times before crossing.
San Diego is a low-risk city for visitors. Watch the usual Downtown and beach nightlife drink and card scams, keep nothing visible in a parked car, and take the coastal fog and cold evening air seriously.
