How to book
Book coach seats on the operator's own site or at the downtown Vancouver depot. Tickets are usually tied to a departure time, and popular slots sell out first: Friday afternoons out of Vancouver, Sunday afternoons back, and every weekend from December to March. Midweek, outside holidays, you can often buy a seat the same day.
If you are driving, reserve a rental car early for ski season and check whether your accommodation includes parking; Village parking is limited and paid. Winter tyres or chains can be required on Highway 99 in snowy conditions, and the highway can close briefly for avalanche control or crashes.

Tips
Sit on the left leaving Vancouver for the best views over Howe Sound, then switch sides as the road turns inland. The ride is scenic enough that many people treat it as part of the trip rather than dead time.
Whistler Village is walkable, so a car is a cost and a parking problem once you arrive. If you only want the village, lifts and trails, take the coach. If you want to stop at the gondola, falls and viewpoints on the way, drive or join a tour that includes stops.
In winter, carry layers and expect snow at the Whistler end even when Vancouver is mild and rainy. In summer, the same road is a cycling route; give riders room if you are driving.
