Rauma is Finland's third-oldest town and holds the largest uniform wooden old town in the Nordic countries, a UNESCO site since 1991. Almost everything worth seeing sits inside a 15-minute walk of the bus station. One night covers it; two if you want the archipelago or the Bronze Age cairns at Sammallahdenmäki.

Safety

Very safe. Real risks are winter ice on the sea, dark unlit roads outside the centre, and thin late-night taxi supply after festivals — pre-book or use an app.
  • No passenger trains to Rauma until May 2027; the last leg is coach, car or taxi.
  • Local bus network is thin — do not plan around it.
  • Winter sea ice near the archipelago: ask locals before walking or skating, never go alone, avoid shipping lanes.
  • Many small museums keep short summer-only hours: check before you travel.
  • Lace Week and Midsummer fill beds — book ahead if your dates land there.
