Nipigon
Stay one night, not three: Nipigon is a highway town of about 1,500 with a museum, a river trail and canyon day trips. Two nights only if you fish or hike.
Nipigon sits on the only road linking eastern and western Canada, on the north shore of Lake Superior between Thunder Bay and Sault Sainte Marie. There is little between the villages out here, so most travellers stop for one night, refuel, walk the river trail and drive on. Anglers and hikers give it two or three nights as a base for charters, Ouimet Canyon and the Lake Superior water trail.
