Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan is a village of about 480 people on Quebec's North Shore, 172 km east of Sept-Îles by Route 138 and 47 km west of Havre-Saint-Pierre. It is the western gateway to the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve, with a long sand beach, a wooden boardwalk and boat access to Île aux Perroquets. Two nights covers the boat trips and the walks; one night is enough if you only pass through on the way to Havre-Saint-Pierre.

Getting around

You need a car: Route 138 is the only road and services are spread along it. The village core is walkable, with the wooden boardwalk along the beach. Boat trips to the archipelago and Île aux Perroquets leave from the wharf area; Intercar runs a bus route several days a week between Sept-Îles and Havre-Saint-Pierre.

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are cold water, weather that turns fast on the gulf, and long empty stretches of Route 138. Tell someone your plan before a boat or forest trip.
  • Book Mingan Archipelago and Île aux Perroquets boat trips ahead in Jul–Aug; island access is limited.
  • Fuel and grocery options thin out east of the village: fill up when you can.
  • Cell and wireless coverage is patchy on Route 138 outside villages.
  • Black flies and mosquitoes are heavy in Jun–Jul; bring repellent.
  • Distances are long: Sept-Îles is 172 km, Montréal about 1,068 (≈ US$800) km.
