Mountain ViewMountain View, Missouri
Base here 1–2 nights for Ozark rivers and springs, not for the town: US 60 puts Alley Spring 30 min away and Jacks Fork access 20 min.
Mountain View is a town of about 2,700 people on US 60 in the Missouri Ozarks, and its value is location rather than its own streets. Within 30–45 minutes you reach Alley Spring and Mill, Rocky Falls, the Jacks Fork and Current rivers of Ozark National Scenic Riverways, and a large block of Mark Twain National Forest. Most travellers use it as a one- or two-night base between Springfield and the rivers, with a car.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is effectively required: sights are 20–45 minutes apart on two-lane highways with no useful bus service. Fill up in town or at Birch Tree before heading to the rivers, and expect gravel on the last stretch to Rocky Falls.

Swimming and canoe put-ins; check water levels after rain.
Round Spring Cave and Devils Well
cautionDoor to door: About 45–60 min
Drive east into Ozark National Scenic Riverways
The two cave sites open to visitors; Round Spring Cave charges a small fee and most other caves are closed for bats.

Mountain View town centre
Motels and a few cabins on and near US 60; walkable to the music theatre and diners, closest to the highway for early starts.
Alley Spring / Eminence side
Cabins and campgrounds 30–45 min east, nearer the river put-ins; quieter, but you drive for every meal.
Birch Tree and Willow Springs
Small-town motels 20–30 min away on US 60; a fallback when Mountain View is full on a summer weekend.

Safety
- No rideshare or taxi coverage to rely on; arrange your own transport.
- Cell signal drops in the river valleys and national forest: download offline maps before you leave US 60.
- Summer heat and humidity are real; carry more water than you think you need on any hike.
- Rivers rise fast after rain — check float conditions and wear a life jacket.
- Some caves are closed year-round to protect bats; only Round Spring Cave and Devils Well are open to visitors.
