São Lourenço do Sul
Half a day to one night: a quiet lakeside town with freshwater beaches, a colonial church and a laid-back pace. Best as a stop between Pelotas and Porto Alegre.
São Lourenço do Sul sits on the Lagoa dos Patos, 55 km south of Pelotas. It's a small town (pop. 43,000) with a handful of sights: a few churches, a municipal museum and several freshwater beaches. Most visitors pass through in half a day or stay one night for the calm atmosphere. The town is safe and walkable, and the main reason to come is the lakefront.
