Siak Sri Indrapura
Half a day is enough: see the palace, walk the bridge, then head back to Pekanbaru. Not a base.
Siak Sri Indrapura is the former capital of the Sultanate of Siak, a small town on the Siak River in Riau. Its main draw is the Istana Siak Sri Inderapura, a Moorish-style palace-museum built in 1889. The town is compact and can be seen in a few hours. Most travellers visit as a day trip from Pekanbaru, about 3–4 hours by road or 2–4 hours by river boat.
