West Kirby is a small Edwardian seaside town at the mouth of the Dee estuary, about 30 minutes by train from Liverpool. Its pull is the marine lake, the Wirral Way and the tidal walk to Hilbre Island, which is only possible in the hours around low tide. Most visitors see it as a half-day or day trip from Liverpool or Birkenhead; one night is enough if you want the sunset over the lake and an early Hilbre crossing.
