Downtown is walkable — most sights sit within 1.5 km of Penn Square. Red Rose Transit Authority buses run city and county routes, roughly hourly, ending around 22:00, fare about $1.80 (check). A car opens the county: Amish farmland, covered bridges and Strasburg are 15–30 min east. Bike share with e-bikes has stations downtown.

Downtown Lancaster is busy and well lit; the real risks are Route 30 traffic, ice in winter and buggies on rural roads. Lock your car and keep valuables out of sight in outlet and market lots.
  • Amish buggies share the roads: pass slowly and wide, never honk.
  • Many Amish-run farm stands and shops close Sunday.
  • Route 30 outlet traffic backs up on weekends; use Newport Road as a bypass.
