Molossia is a self-declared micronation on a residential lot in Dayton, Nevada, about 27 mi from Reno, and it is not recognised by the United States or the UN. Visits run only on dates the president sets, roughly once a month from April to October, by email reservation; plan about two hours for the tour, the grounds and the gift shop. Treat it as a half-day stop on a Western Nevada trip, not a destination in itself.

Getting around

Molossia is the size of a rural home lot and is walked on foot in minutes. You need a car to reach Dayton: from Reno take I-580 south, then NV-341 to Virginia City, then NV-79 (Six Mile Canyon Road) to Dayton. Street parking is on the US side of the border. Molossia's own miniature-gauge railway is a display line, not transport, and does not connect to any US rail service.

Watch out

Safety

The real risk is desert heat, not the micronation: carry water and sun cover. Molossia is formally at war with the former East Germany, but German visitors are welcome and the 'war' is a running joke.
  • Entry is by advance reservation only; email mininfo@molossia.org with your party size and wait for a confirmed date.
  • Outside tour dates you may not tour the grounds — only the Little Free Library and the bench just over the border.
  • Prohibited items include firearms, drugs and tobacco, onions, catfish, plastic bags and incandescent bulbs; bringing them in can mean a mock detention.
  • Desert heat: bring water, sunscreen and a hat, especially in summer.
  • The Molossian stamp is a souvenir, not a real entry stamp — bring an old passport if you want one.
