Yuryev-Polsky is a small town of about 3,400 people in the north of Vladimir Oblast, 70 km from Vladimir and 160 km from Moscow. It is not on the standard Golden Ring circuit and transport links are thin, but the white-stone Cathedral of St. George, built in 1234 and rebuilt in the 15th century, is one of the oldest surviving monuments of pre-Mongol Russian architecture. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop between Vladimir and Suzdal or as a detour on the road to Pereslavl-Zalessky.

Safety
- Public transport is sparse: buses from Vladimir run roughly every two hours and the Alexandrov train is once daily.
- The Moscow night train to Kineshma stops here in the middle of the night — not a practical arrival.
- Many churches are closed outside services; the museum complex has limited winter hours.
- Card payment is not universal in small shops and cafés: carry rubles.
