Lund is a compact university town in Scania, 15 minutes by train from Malmö and about 50 minutes from Copenhagen Airport. The medieval street pattern, the 1103 cathedral and the open-air Kulturen museum fit into a single walking day. Most travellers sleep in Malmö or Copenhagen and visit Lund as a half-day or one-night stop; a night here is worth it if you want the student-town evening and an early start for Uppåkra or the coast.

Getting around

The centre is walkable in an afternoon; the old town's irregular streets make a map useful. Skånetrafiken city buses (green) cover the rest, with hubs at the station, Botulfsplatsen and the university hospital. Buses take no cash: tap a bank card or buy in advance at a Pressbyrån shop. The light rail line runs from the station to the ESS science complex. Taxis and Bolt wait at the station and Botulfsplatsen.

Lund is a low-risk university town; the real issues are cash-free buses, short winter daylight and bike traffic in the centre. Emergency number is 112.

  • Green buses stay in Lund, yellow buses go to other towns: check the colour before you board.
  • Winter daylight is short (roughly 08:30–15:30 in December): plan indoor sights for the afternoon.
