Moosomin
Stop for one night on the Trans-Canada between Regina and Winnipeg, or skip: the museum and walking tour fill half a day, not a trip.
Moosomin is a town of about 2,500 people 20 km west of the Manitoba border, on the Trans-Canada Highway 225 km east of Regina and 350 km west of Winnipeg. It began in 1882 as the first Saskatchewan community on the CPR line and now serves oil, potash and farm country. Almost every visitor is driving through; the reason to get out of the car is a small regional museum, a self-guided heritage walk and a bed that costs less than in the cities at either end.

Getting around
You need a car. The town is small enough to walk between Broadway Ave and Main St, but the museum, the golf course and the highway services are spread out, and there is no local transit. Fuel up here before the 225 km run to Regina or the 350 km run to Winnipeg.

Safety
- Winter driving: Highway 1 closes in blizzards and drifting snow; check the provincial highway conditions before you leave.
- Rider Express runs the Winnipeg–Regina route once a week and overnight only: check the current timetable before you plan around it.
- The regional museum opens only in summer (July 1 to Labour Day, Thursday to Sunday afternoons): outside that window there is little to see indoors.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on secondary roads north and south.
