Framingham is a suburban city 30-40 minutes west of Boston by commuter rail, built around retail and offices rather than sights. It works as a budget bed near Boston, a Route 9 shopping stop, or a half-day for Saxonville's mill village and Callahan State Park. Most travellers pass through; two nights is the practical maximum.

- Route 9 traffic is heavy all day; allow extra time for short distances.
- Sidewalks are missing on parts of Route 9 and Route 30: do not plan to walk between malls.
- Winter ice on paths in Callahan State Park and along the Sudbury River.
- Beach swimming at the three town ponds needs a permit or day fee and is staffed only mid-June to late August.
