Amherst is a small Lorain County town of about 12,000 people, 4 km south of Lake Erie and 45 km west of Cleveland. It grew on sandstone quarries that once supplied grindstones nationwide, and the downtown still wears that stone. There is no single headline sight: you come for a quiet base between Cleveland, Oberlin and Cedar Point, with cheap motels and free parking.
