Rohnert Park is a Sonoma County commuter city of about 41,000 people on US-101, 10 miles south of Santa Rosa and roughly 50 miles north of San Francisco. It has no historic centre and little for a visitor to see; its practical value is motel and business-hotel beds, a casino, and a SMART train stop that links Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Treat it as a bed, not a destination. Coordinates are the city centre, approximate.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights, wineries and the coast are spread across Sonoma County and buses are slow. SMART trains run between Larkspur and Santa Rosa, calling at Rohnert Park, Cotati, Petaluma and Novato; an extension north to Windsor, Healdsburg and Cloverdale is planned but not open. Sonoma County Transit and Golden Gate Transit cover local and Bay Area bus routes. The city itself is flat and bikeable, but most trips start on US-101.
