West SalemWest Salem, Ohio
Give West Salem half a day as a Wooster-area stop: the village itself is 1–2 hours, Dragway 42 or the nature preserve can fill the rest.
West Salem is a village of about 1,460 people in Wayne County, northeast Ohio, just north of SR 539 and close to I-71 between Cleveland and Columbus. It is not a destination town: there is a historic city hall, one restaurant, a library, a campground and two real draws nearby — Dragway 42 and the Swamp Cottonwood State Nature Preserve. Most travellers see it as a half-day add-on to a Wooster-area trip, not a base.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Watch out
Safety
- No public transport to or between the sights: without a car you are stuck.
- Dragway 42 events are weather-dependent and can be cancelled; check the schedule before driving out.
- The Swamp Cottonwood preserve is a fragile site with no facilities — stay on the trail and take water out with you.
- Cell coverage is fine in the village but patchy on the back roads; download an offline map.
