Erongarícuaro
Base here 1–2 nights only if you want a quiet lakeside village; otherwise day-trip from Pátzcuaro (combis about M$10, 20–30 min).
Erongarícuaro is a small Purhépecha town on the west shore of Lake Pátzcuaro, about 17 km from Pátzcuaro and roughly 1.5 h from Morelia. It is a working village, not a resort: one plaza, a 16th-century church and monastery, market day on Tuesdays, and a handful of guesthouses. Come for a slow night or two, or as a half-day stop between Pátzcuaro and the lake's north shore.

Safety
- Roads between Erongarícuaro and Pátzcuaro can have potholes and many speed bumps; drive slowly and watch for animals.
- ATMs are limited (police station, a government building on the plaza, OXXO); bring cash in pesos.
