Give Gibsons one night as a ferry-and-harbour stop on the Sunshine Coast, not a base: 2 nights only if you kayak or hike Soames Hill.
Gibsons is a small harbour town of about 4,600 people on the lower Sunshine Coast, reached by a 40-minute BC Ferries crossing from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver — there is no road link to the rest of the mainland. It splits into Lower Gibsons (waterfront shops, wharf, galleries) and Upper Gibsons (Highway 101, supermarkets, motels). Most travellers pass through on the way to Sechelt or Powell River; one night is enough for the harbour, the museum and a brewery.

Getting around
BC Transit Sunshine Coast routes 1 and 90 link Langdale ferry terminal, Gibsons and Sechelt; route 90 is the faster run (Gibsons to the ferry 10–15 min, to Sechelt about 30 min). Lower and Upper Gibsons are 1.5–2 km apart on a hill — walkable but steep with bags. Taxis and one local ride-hail app exist; a car helps for beaches and trailheads.

Safety
- The Sunshine Coast has no road link to Vancouver: you must take BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay, and the fare to Langdale is charged return, so you pay only on the way in.
- Ferries fill up toward the coast in summer; reserve ahead or arrive early, and drivers must redeem a reservation at least 30 minutes before sailing.
- Many restaurants, cafés and lodges cut hours or close entirely from November to February — check before you book a winter trip.
- The nearest hospital is in Sechelt, about 25–30 minutes away by road.
