Piripiri
Use Piripiri as a base for Sete Cidades National Park: one night is enough. The town itself has little to see beyond the church square.
Piripiri is a small city of 63,000 in Piauí, northeastern Brazil. Its main draw is proximity to Sete Cidades National Park (25 km away). The town has a few hotels, basic eateries and a bus station. Most travellers stay one night to visit the park, then move on to Parnaíba or Teresina.

- South America ↗Overnight buses are the norm in Argentina, Chile and Peru, but pick top-tier companies and keep valuables on your body; on-board thefts from overhead racks are the common loss.

- Brazil ↗Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for many areas, including the Amazon and Pantanal; check with a travel clinic at least 10 days before travel.
- Brazil ↗Keep your phone out of sight in the street and on beaches; phone theft is the most common crime against visitors in big cities.
