PastavyПаставы

Pastavy is a half-day stop for the Gothic Revival church and palace park on the way to or from the Braslaǔ Lakes. Not a base.

Pastavy is a small town in the Belarusian Lake District, 20 km from the Lithuanian border. Its main draws are the Church of St. Anthony of Padua (1904), the Tyzenhauz Palace (18th century) and the surrounding landscape park with ponds and canals. Most travellers use it as a brief stop between Vitebsk and the Braslaǔ Lakes, or as a side trip from Polotsk. The town has limited accommodation and dining.

  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Reach this subregion only from the EU side — Romania for Moldova — through crossings run by recognised authorities; no route through Ukraine, Belarus or Russia is planned here.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Re-read your government's advice for Moldova (it covers Transnistria) in the week you travel; the situation next door changes fast.
  • Eastern Europe ↗Carry euros in cash for Transnistria and village Moldova; cards stop working at the Dniester.
  • Belarus ↗Check your own government travel advice for Belarus before any booking; advice depends on your passport and changes without notice.
  • Belarus ↗Land crossings from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia open and close on short notice; confirm the crossing on the day with that country's border guard.
  • Belarus ↗Confirm that your travel insurance and medical evacuation cover apply to Belarus before you rely on it.

Watch out

Safety

Pastavy is a quiet town with low crime. The main risks are traffic on the R27 road and the cold in winter. Follow your government's travel advice for Belarus.
  • The palace is used as a hospital; interior access is limited. Check at the entrance.
  • Last train times: verify at the station or online; services are infrequent.
  • Cash is king: cards are not widely accepted outside Minsk.
