Stay one night if you want whale watching and Acadian food; two nights if you hike the Acadian Trail and drive the Cabot Trail north.
Chéticamp is a French-speaking Acadian fishing village of about 4,000 people on the west coast of Cape Breton Island, and the western gate of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The Cabot Trail is the only road in and out. Most travellers pass through in a few hours; the village rewards a night for whale watching, hooked-rug workshops and seafood, and a second night if you want to hike inside the park.

- Most restaurants, museums and whale-watching operators shut from late October to mid-May: check before you book a shoulder-season night.
- Cell coverage is patchy north of the village inside the national park.
