Go for 2 nights in the dry winter (Jun–Aug) if you want cool mountain air and alpine-style streets; skip it in the July school holidays unless you book beds weeks ahead.
Campos do Jordão sits at 1,628 m in the Serra da Mantiqueira, the highest town seat in Brazil, about 2 h by road from São Paulo. It is a cool-climate weekend town: German-style Capivari, a cable car, a streetcar, forest parks and hydrangea farms. Two nights covers it; three if you hike or ride the Serra rail line.

The centre is walkable but hilly; taxis and app cars handle the rest. The Bondinho streetcar loops Capivari–Abernéssia–Jaguaribe in about 40 min. A car helps for parks, waterfalls and Santo Antônio do Pinhal; the SP-123 from Taubaté is winding and often foggy.
