Calabash is a 2,000-person river town on the North Carolina–South Carolina line, known for its namesake light-batter fried seafood. The town itself is a few blocks of restaurants, gift shops and charter docks; the beach is at Sunset Beach, about a 15-minute drive. Most travellers pass through on US 17 between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, or stay one night as a seafood-and-beach stop.
