Walk. The station to the seafront is about 10 minutes downhill; allow 15–20 minutes between the station and the far end of the centre. Stagecoach Loop buses run every 10–20 min between Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate; local taxis cover the beaches and the retail park.

Safety

A low-crime seaside town; the real risks are the steep beach shelf, cliff-edge paths in wind, and tide cut-offs on the low-tide beach walk. Standard UK precautions apply at night around the bars.
  • The beach shelves steeply at Viking Bay: watch children and weak swimmers.
  • Dogs are banned on Viking Bay from 1 May to 30 Sep, and on Louisa Bay 10:00–18:00 in the same period.
  • At high tide the water reaches the cliffs, so the low-tide walk between beaches can strand you: check local tide times before setting off and turn back early.
  • Several restaurants and the smaller museums keep short or seasonal hours; book dinner and check opening days before you travel.
