Subang Jaya is a residential city in Selangor, halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam, built around malls, universities and the old Subang airport. Most travellers come for Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Pyramid in neighbouring Bandar Sunway, or sleep here because it is cheaper than central KL. Sights are thin; food, malls and transport links are the reason to stop.

Getting around

The KTM Komuter and Kelana Jaya LRT meet at Subang Jaya station; the BRT Sunway Line links Setia Jaya to USJ 7. Rapid KL buses charge a flat RM1 for local hops. Taxis and ride-hailing are the practical option for USJ and industrial areas; a car helps if you plan to eat across the city.

Safety

Low street crime for a Klang Valley city; the real risks are traffic, flash floods after heavy rain and unlicensed taxis. Keep bags zipped in malls and use ride-hailing at night.
  • Persiaran Kewajipan and the Summit USJ lights jam badly at rush hour: add 15–20 min.
  • Some malls and supermarkets have closed or moved (Giant USJ, Carrefour rebranded): check before you go.
  • Taxis may ask for a surcharge on top of the meter; agree the fare or use an app.
  • Afternoon thunderstorms are common year-round; carry a small umbrella.
