Visconde de Mauá
Spend 2 days for hiking, waterfalls and local inns; easy weekend from Rio (3 h) or São Paulo (5 h).
Visconde de Mauá is a mountain tourism hub in the Serra da Mantiqueira, at the Rio‑Minas border. Trails, waterfalls and horseback rides are clustered around three villages (Visconde, Maringá, Maromba). The last 15 km from the highway is unpaved, so a car or bus plus a short walk is enough. Two days cover the main sights and a relaxed stay in a local inn.
