DentonDenton, Maryland
Give Denton half a day, not a night: the rural-life museum and the Choptank wharf centre, then push on to Cambridge or St. Michaels.
Denton is the small seat of Caroline County, on the Choptank River at the crossing of MD-404 and MD-313, about 1 h 30 min from the Bay Bridge and 45 min from Cambridge. It is a courthouse-and-market town with two small museums, a riverfront park and a handful of places to eat. Almost nobody needs to sleep here; it works as a leg-stretch or a rainy-hour stop between the beaches and the Chesapeake towns.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: MD-404 and MD-313 meet here and the sights sit 1–2 km apart. Downtown is walkable in 15 minutes end to end, and there is a small riverfront park at Crouse Park. No useful local bus network for visitors.

Watch out
Safety
- MD-404 is a fast divided highway with few crossings: do not walk or cycle along it.
- Museum hours are short and seasonal, so check before you drive out.
- Weekday traffic on US-50 toward the Bay Bridge backs up badly on summer Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings.
