Pagudpud is the northern tip of Luzon, about 560 km and 10 hours by road from Manila and roughly 2 hours by bus from Laoag. It is split in two: the west side around Saud Beach and Poblacion, and the east side at Maira-ira Point (Blue Lagoon) near Patapat Viaduct. The two clusters are far apart, so where you sleep decides what you see. Come in the dry months, plan around the bus, and treat the coast road as the main attraction.

Getting around

Tricycles are the main local transport and are fine in town, but the coast road is hilly and long, so day trips to Blue Lagoon or Kabigan Falls are slow and expensive by tricycle. A hired van or scooter makes the east side practical, but availability and cost: check. Buses on the Manila North Road (AH26) link Pagudpud with Laoag, Bangui and Tuguegarao.

Watch out

Safety

Pagudpud is a small, low-crime beach town and generally safe for tourists. The real risks are the wet-season coast road (landslides, viaduct closures), rough surf with no lifeguards, and long tricycle rides on unlit roads after dark.
  • Landslides are common in the rainy season, and the ageing Patapat Viaduct has been closed for repairs, causing long delays on the national highway.
  • The two beach clusters are 20–25 km apart: check your resort's location before booking.
  • Cash is king outside the bigger resorts; ATMs are limited, so bring enough pesos from Laoag.
  • Swimming is seasonal: rough surf and no lifeguards in the wet months.
