Give Jönköping one full day plus a night: lakeside beach and city centre on foot, then Gränna and Visingsö as the day trip. Two nights if you want DreamHack or Elmia.
Jönköping sits at the southern tip of Lake Vättern, a small walkable centre split into east and west, with two smaller lakes of its own. It is a match-making town turned lakeside city, and most visitors use it as a one-night stop on the E4 between Stockholm and Malmö, or as a base for Gränna and the island of Visingsö. Rail is weak for a city this size: expect a change at Nässjö or Skövde.

Getting around
The centre is small and flat: walk it. City buses leave from Juneporten by the Resecentrum; single tickets are a flat fare, cheaper off-peak, and the last weekday bus runs around midnight (check Jönköpings Länstrafik). Taxis are metered and pricey late; TaxiKurir runs an app. Bikes work well along the lake.

Safety
- Rail is indirect: no direct SJ trains from Stockholm or Malmö, usually a change at Nässjö or Skövde.
- Last city bus is around midnight on weekdays; weekend service is later but check the timetable.
- Lake Vättern is deep and cold even in August — the beach shelves quickly.
