Mukilteo is a small Puget Sound waterfront town wrapped around the Whidbey Island ferry terminal, with Boeing's wide-body plant and Paine Field next door. Most travellers pass through on the 20-minute crossing or stop for the lighthouse park and the Future of Flight museum. It works as a quiet base for North Sound, not as a destination on its own.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights sit 3–5 km apart along Mukilteo Speedway (WA-525). Community Transit route 117 links the ferry terminal to Lynnwood City Center Station (Link light rail to Seattle); Everett Transit route 18 runs to Everett Station. The Sounder commuter train stops at Mukilteo on weekdays only.

Safety

Mukilteo is a low-crime small town; the real risks are wet roads, ferry-terminal traffic and cold water at the beach. Lock the car and keep valuables out of sight at trailheads and park-and-rides.
  • Ferry vehicle queues can run a few hours on summer weekends: walk on if you can.
  • Paine Field Blvd and the Boeing Freeway carry factory traffic at shift changes.
  • Winter is wet and dark by 16:30; the waterfront is exposed to wind.
  • Boeing tour entry is by timed ticket and photo ID; production-line access can close without notice — check before booking.
