Deerfield Beach is a small Atlantic-front city in northern Broward County, about 81,000 people, sitting between Boca Raton to the north and Pompano Beach to the south. The beach and the fishing pier are the reason to come; the rest of the city is residential and car-dependent. Most travellers use it as a quieter, cheaper beach base than Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton, or as a one-night stop on the coastal rail line.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the city is not walkable outside the beach and downtown blocks. Broward County Transit Route 48 links Deerfield Mall, the Tri-Rail/Amtrak station, downtown and the beachfront, and Palm Tran Route 92 runs along Ocean Boulevard but not south of East Hillsboro Boulevard. Buses are slow and infrequent; budget taxi or rideshare for evenings.

Watch out
Safety
- Hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November, with the highest risk in September and October: check forecasts and have a plan before you book a beach week.
- Summer is hot and humid with most of the annual rain falling May–October; afternoon storms are normal.
- The beach is the draw, but parking near it fills on weekends: arrive before mid-morning or pay for a lot.
- Outside the beach and downtown, pavements are patchy and crossings are long: do not plan to walk to dinner from a highway-side hotel.
