Skip as a base: Booterstown is a 20-minute DART ride from Dublin and worth half a day for the marsh and strand, not a night.
Booterstown is a coastal suburb south of Dublin, built around a DART stop, a bird sanctuary and the Belfield campus of University College Dublin. It has almost no visitor accommodation and no reason to sleep here: Dublin city centre is 20 minutes by train, and the marsh, strand and campus walks fill a half day at most. Treat it as a stop on the DART line between Dublin and Dún Laoghaire, or as a place to stay only if you have business at UCD.

Getting around
The DART runs every 15 minutes along the coast from Howth/Malahide through Dublin to Bray/Greystones, with Booterstown and Sydney Parade stations serving the area. Dublin Bus routes 39a, 46a and 145 link the UCD campus with the city centre every 8–10 minutes by day. Within the campus, walking is fastest; a car is unnecessary if you stay in Dublin.

- Booterstown has very little visitor accommodation: book in Dublin or Dún Laoghaire instead unless you have a specific reason to be here.
- The marsh is a nature reserve: stay on the path and use the viewing area at the north-western corner.
- Sandymount Strand is tidal and the sand can be soft and cut off by the incoming tide: check tide times before walking out.
- UCD campus buildings have term-time access rules and some houses are closed to the public: check before travelling for a specific building.
