It packs four show caves, a Norman castle and the start of the Mam Tor ridge walk into a 15-minute walk. Two nights covers it; the village is small, so book beds early for weekends and school holidays.

Getting around

The village is walkable end to end in 15 minutes. Buses run to Sheffield and Hope station, and train tickets are accepted on the Castleton–Hope bus. There is no bus west through Winnats Pass, so the Blue John and Treak Cliff caves and Mam Tor need a car, a taxi or a 25–40 min walk uphill.
