Frederiksværk
Half a day: see the Gate of Transformation, the Industrial Museum and the town museum, then move on to Elsinore or Hillerød. Not worth an overnight unless you camp.
Frederiksværk is a small industrial town in North Zealand, known for its 18th-century cannon foundry and the striking Gate of Transformation sculpture. The main draw is the Industrial Museum (Krudtværksalleen 1), housed in the former gunpowder mill, which tells the story of Denmark's arms production. The town museum (Arsenalet) and the Fire Fighting Museum add local colour. Most travellers use it as a brief stop between Elsinore and Hillerød, or as a lunch break on the way to Hundested.

Rules in force · 7Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Nordic countries ↗Decide light or dark before anything else: summer trips (June–August) and aurora trips (September–March in the Arctic) need different countries, clothes and bases.
- Nordic countries ↗Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Faroes sell stronger alcohol only in state shops with short hours; buy before evening and before Sundays and holidays.
- Denmark ↗Denmark is in the EU and the Schengen area. Check the entry rules for your passport on official sources; Greenland and the Faroe Islands have separate entry arrangements.
- Denmark ↗Bike lanes are busy fast lanes: do not walk or stand in them, and signal before you stop if you cycle.
- Denmark ↗Denmark is close to cashless: cards and phone payments work almost everywhere, even for small amounts.
Entry rules depend on your passport. Full visa guide
