Llafranc is one of three coastal villages of the Palafrugell municipality in the Baix Empordà, a sheltered crescent bay with a small working port, a promenade of low white houses and a headland, Sant Sebastià, with a lighthouse and an Iberian settlement above it. It is quiet and family-oriented, walkable end to end in about 15 minutes, and it works best as a slow 2–3 night base with the Camí de Ronda coastal path linking it to Calella de Palafrugell and Tamariu. Come for the bay and the walks, not for a resort strip.

Getting around

The village is small enough to walk: beach to port is under 10 minutes. The Camí de Ronda path runs to Calella de Palafrugell (about 20–25 min) and on to Tamariu (roughly 1 h 15 min, rocky in places). Buses link Llafranc with Palafrugell, the market town uphill, and from there to Girona and Barcelona. A car helps for Begur, Pals and the inland villages, but parking near the beach fills by mid-morning in summer.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe for a beach village: the real risks are the sun, uneven coastal-path sections, and swimming near anchored boats in summer. Keep valuables out of sight on the sand.
  • Parking near the beach is limited and paid in season; use the Carrer del Nero or plaça Jaume I car parks and walk.
  • The Camí de Ronda has rough, uneven sections; wear shoes with grip, not flip-flops.
  • Many hotels and restaurants close or cut hours from November to March: check before booking a winter trip.
  • Cala del Cau is reached by a steep, difficult path from the lighthouse; not for small children.
  • Swim inside the marked bay; boats anchor close to the coves in summer.
