BasayBasay, Negros Oriental

Skip Basay unless you are a game fisher or want a quiet beach stop: half a day for Camangyawon Beach and a dive at Balatong Point, then move on to Dumaguete or Bayawan.

Basay is the westernmost town on Negros Oriental's south coast, a fishing port with a white-sand beach and a dive spot. It has no major sights and limited accommodation, so most travellers use it as a lunch stop or a short side trip from Dumaguete (2.5 h drive) or Bayawan.

Watch out

Safety

Basay is a quiet fishing town with low crime. The main risks are rough seas during typhoon season and limited medical facilities: the nearest hospital is in Bayawan.
  • No ATMs in Basay: bring enough cash from Dumaguete or Bayawan.
  • Game fishing trips need advance booking through a local operator; check availability.
  • Road from Dumaguete can be slow behind trucks; allow 2.5–3 h.
