Wrocław is Poland's western hub, the historic capital of Silesia, and a compact old town built over islands on the Oder. Most of the centre is walkable, the tram network is cheap and frequent, and two nights covers the Rynek, Cathedral Island, the dwarves and the Centennial Hall district. It works as a 2-night stop between Kraków and Berlin or Dresden, or as a base for Lower Silesian castles and mountain towns.

- Ticket machines on trams and buses take card only, and print nothing — the ticket is coded on your card.
- Some Rynek and Świdnicka bars post no prices; ask the total before ordering.
- Pickpockets work the Rynek, the station and packed trams; keep bags zipped in front.
